JetBrains takes feature requests for IntelliJ IDEA, ReSharper, Kotlin, TeamCity and its other products in public, on its YouTrack tracker at youtrack.jetbrains.com, where anyone signed in can vote. Every public issue of the type Feature, 149,466 filed between 2004 and 4 October 2026 across 85 projects, was read on that day with its project, state, dates and votes.
32.2 percent were built. 36.7 percent are still open, with a median age of six years, and 4.1 percent were declined. The typical request has no votes at all: 62.3 percent have none. Those that drew votes were built more often the more they drew. Counting only what was built more than 30 days after filing, the share climbs from 24.1 percent at one to four votes to 59.5 percent past a hundred.

How many JetBrains feature requests get built?
About one in three. A request is counted as built when its state is Fixed, Verified, Released, Done, Published, Completed, Solved or Merged, and as declined when it is Declined, Won't fix, As Designed, Works As Intended, Not Planned, Canceled or Abandoned.
| Outcome | Requests | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Built | 48,190 | 32.2% |
| Still open | 54,857 | 36.7% |
| Duplicate | 17,430 | 11.7% |
| Obsolete | 8,808 | 5.9% |
| Shelved | 7,765 | 5.2% |
| Declined | 6,147 | 4.1% |
| Closed for another reason | 6,269 | 4.2% |
The other reasons are mostly requests answered as questions, 2,614, and requests closed as incomplete, 1,528. The ones still open hold 164,291 of the 437,662 votes ever cast, 37.5 percent.
Do more votes get a feature built?
Past the first few votes, yes, and they keep a request from being declined.
| Votes | Requests | Built | Built more than 30 days after filing | Declined | Still open |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| None | 93,165 | 32.1% | 19.0% | 5.0% | 32.5% |
| 1 to 4 | 40,611 | 29.2% | 24.1% | 3.0% | 44.3% |
| 5 to 19 | 11,461 | 38.1% | 36.6% | 1.7% | 43.9% |
| 20 to 99 | 3,659 | 47.3% | 46.8% | 2.0% | 38.6% |
| 100 or more | 570 | 59.8% | 59.5% | 1.4% | 29.6% |
Requests with no votes look like an exception, and most of it is timing. Of those built with no votes, 40.3 percent were built within 30 days of being filed and 25.3 percent within a week, before anyone had time to vote. Counting only what was built more than 30 days after filing, the share rises with every step in votes.
Of the 1,000 most voted requests on the tracker, 552 were built, 330 are still open, 52 were shelved and 14 were declined.
How long does a popular request wait?
Longer the more votes it has, because a request collects votes for as long as it waits.
| Votes | Median days from filing to built |
|---|---|
| None | 64 |
| 1 to 4 | 269 |
| 5 to 19 | 693 |
| 20 to 99 | 1,244 |
| 100 or more | 1,568 |
Two of the most voted show the range. Collaborative development in IntelliJ IDEA, IDEA-344251, filed in February 2005, was marked Fixed in April 2021 with 2,314 votes, the most of any feature request on the tracker. Redis support in DataGrip, DBE-283, filed in June 2014, was marked Fixed in December 2022 with 1,324.
Of the 54,857 still open, the median was filed 2,221 days before the read, a little over six years. 58.4 percent are more than five years old and 25.9 percent more than ten.
What do Shelved, Upvoting and Open mean on JetBrains' tracker?
JetBrains defines its states in public. The team behind ReSharper and Rider publishes a table of every state it uses, and the IntelliJ team explains Shelved in an article on its tracker.
Shelved means the team reviewed a request, found merit in it, and cannot fit it into its near term plan. 7,765 requests are shelved, filed a median of 3,908 days ago, and 29 of them have a hundred votes or more. On ReSharper, 1,603 requests carry the state Shelved with a resolution date of 4 May 2021, a median of nine years after they were filed.
Upvoting, used on ReSharper, Rider, dotTrace and dotMemory, means the team is weighing demand and how hard or risky the change would be, and it asks readers to vote or comment if they want the request moved up. 3,390 requests sit in Upvoting. 1,987 of them, 58.6 percent, have no votes, and 2,607, 76.9 percent, were filed more than five years ago. The most voted, RIDER-11489, has 264.
Open, on the same team's table, means a request it wants to build in the near future and keeps on its short list. On ReSharper and Rider, 971 feature requests are Open, filed a median of 1,838 days ago.
Obsolete means the part of the product a request was about has since been removed or reworked. 8,808 requests ended there.
Which requests have waited longest with the most votes?
| Key | What it asks for | Filed | Votes | State on 4 October 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KT-11968 | Statics and static extensions in Kotlin | April 2016 | 803 | In Progress |
| KT-7128 | A multi catch block in Kotlin | March 2015 | 736 | Open |
| JBR-3206 | Native Wayland support in the JetBrains Runtime | December 2019 | 673 | In Progress |
| IDEABKL-7283 | JetBrains IDEs on the iPad Pro | October 2015 | 567 | Submitted |
| FL-10369 | Dart support in Fleet | December 2021 | 541 | Open |

| IJPL-77243 | A git flow interface in the IntelliJ Platform | February 2011 | 494 | Open |
The tracker records a request's current state, not when it entered it.
Which JetBrains products build the most of what is asked?
The ten projects with the most feature requests, by what became of them.
| Product | Requests | Built | Declined | Shelved | Still open |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| IntelliJ Platform | 22,830 | 25.3% | 3.7% | 9.6% | 39.0% |
| IntelliJ IDEA | 20,547 | 39.5% | 5.4% | 8.0% | 24.2% |
| ReSharper | 12,220 | 32.7% | 5.0% | 20.3% | 24.8% |
| TeamCity | 10,869 | 30.2% | 6.2% | 0.0% | 43.5% |
| WebStorm | 8,723 | 35.2% | 3.9% | 1.6% | 38.0% |
| PyCharm | 7,021 | 23.0% | 3.6% | 0.0% | 49.3% |
| Kotlin | 6,527 | 31.5% | 7.5% | 2.9% | 39.8% |
| Rider | 5,541 | 28.0% | 1.5% | 8.5% | 38.2% |

| Ruby | 4,301 | 38.4% | 5.6% | 0.0% | 24.1% |
One project holds what IntelliJ IDEA has set aside. IntelliJ IDEA: Backlog has 3,788 feature requests, of which 3.4 percent were built and 71.5 percent are open, filed a median of 21 years ago.
The older the request, the likelier it was built: 55.6 percent of those filed in 2006, 44.8 percent of 2010's, 33.4 percent of 2015's and 28.5 percent of 2020's.
How does JetBrains compare with Atlassian?
JetBrains built a larger share and closed far fewer unbuilt. Of 179,402 suggestions on Atlassian's public tracker, 17.1 percent were built and 37.4 percent were closed unbuilt, many of them in one sweep in 2025. On JetBrains' tracker, 32.2 percent were built and 15.2 percent were declined, shelved or made obsolete, and a request that is not built is more often left open: 36.7 percent are, with a median age of six years against Atlassian's three.
The curve is the same on both. Counting only what was built more than 30 days after filing, Atlassian goes from 8.0 percent at one to four votes to 47.0 percent past a thousand, and JetBrains from 24.1 percent at one to four votes to 59.5 percent past a hundred. On both trackers the median request has one vote or none. VS Code's GitHub repository, which closes a request that misses 20 upvotes in 60 days, built 28.5 percent of its 28,886 feature requests.
How do you file a feature request with JetBrains?
On YouTrack, JetBrains' public tracker. In IntelliJ IDEA, Help | Submit a Bug Report opens it, and JetBrains' help sends feature suggestions the same way. It asks for a search first, and for a vote or a comment on a similar ticket instead of a new one. On this tracker the search pays off: 17,430 feature requests, 11.7 percent, ended as duplicates.
Each person has one vote per issue, and YouTrack does not let the person who filed an issue vote for it. So a request's count is support from other people, and 62.3 percent of the requests here have none.
What does that mean for your own feature request board?
On a tracker of 149,466 requests, votes went with being built, but the typical request drew none, and a third of everything ever asked is still open, most of it for more than five years. The state that asks readers for votes, Upvoting, holds requests that mostly have none.
The same pattern holds on far smaller boards. On 634 public Canny and Featurebase boards, the median request held two votes and requests with three to nine votes were decided no more often than those with two or fewer.
What a board owner controls is the answer. On VoteFirst, Denied and Completed are columns on the board by default, so a request that will not be built can be shown as denied, and when a release includes a request, every voter who was signed in when they voted is emailed that release. Anonymous votes leave no address to write to.
How was this read, and when does it change?
JetBrains' tracker answers its public REST API without a sign in. Every issue of the type Feature was read on 4 October 2026, a thousand at a time in order of filing, at one request every three seconds, and the 149,466 rows hold 149,466 distinct keys. Issues that JetBrains limits to its own staff are not shown to a reader who is not signed in, so this is the public tracker only. Each row keeps the key, the project, the product, the state, the date filed, the date resolved and the vote count. Titles, descriptions and comments were not kept.
Built and declined are read from the state, whichever project it is in. Still open means a state outside those, outside Duplicate, Obsolete and Shelved, and no resolution date. Some projects count Shelved as resolved and others do not, so Shelved is counted on its own in every project. The tracker holds requests filed by JetBrains staff as well as by users, and this read does not tell them apart. A request's votes are counted on the read date, so a request built years ago had its votes counted after it was built as well as before. The tracker does not show when each vote was cast.
The next read is due by 1 January 2027.
