How 3,275 public feedback boards are set up

The switches behind 1,218 Featurebase workspaces, 1,861 Canny boards, 117 Frill workspaces and 79 FeatureOS workspaces, read on 3 October 2026 from the record each tool sends to every visitor. They say who may vote, post and comment without an account, what a board holds back, which order it opens in, which tools it connects to and whether it lets search engines in. Each workspace or board is one row in the file below, and no company, board or host is named.

Most boards share one setup. 93 percent of Featurebase workspaces let a visitor vote without signing in, 9 percent let one post, and 88 percent open on the newest requests rather than the most voted. On Canny, where every voter has an account, 98 percent of boards let visitors post and 88 percent show who voted. On Frill, 59 percent of workspaces take a vote with nothing asked, though a new Frill account starts by asking for a name and email.

How many boards let people vote without an account?

On Featurebase, nearly all of them. 1,134 of 1,218 workspaces, 93.1 percent, let a visitor vote without signing in. Posting and commenting are separate switches, and few turn them on: 113 workspaces let a guest post, 9.3 percent, and 103 let a guest comment, 8.5 percent. The most common setup by far, on 1,008 workspaces or 82.8 percent, is guest voting with posting and commenting kept for people who sign in.

Paying workspaces are stricter about votes and looser about posts. 78.3 percent of the 221 that pay let a guest vote, against 96.4 percent of the 997 that do not, and 22.2 percent let a guest post, against 6.4 percent.

Canny has no such switch, and every voter there has an account. What it offers instead is a board that shows each person under a generated alias, which its help centre places on the Pro and Business plans. 104 of the 868 boards on paying Canny sites use it, 12.0 percent, and 4 of the 993 on sites that do not pay.

Frill sets votes, posts and comments one by one. Its help centre describes the settings: Anonymous asks for nothing and keeps a cookie, Guest asks for a name and email, Registered needs an account, and Custom mixes them. Guest is the default on every new Frill account. Of 117 live Frill workspaces, 69 take a vote with nothing asked, 59.0 percent, 28 still ask for a name and email, and 20 need an account. Posting stays stricter: 87 ask a guest for a name and email before a post, 24 need an account, and 6 ask for nothing. The most common setup, on 60 workspaces, is an anonymous vote with a name and email for posts and comments.

FeatureOS has one switch for guest votes and one for guest posts, and its help centre describes a guest post as one made with an email address and no sign in. 29 of 79 FeatureOS workspaces take guest votes, 36.7 percent, and 64 take guest posts, 81.0 percent.

Which other tools let a visitor vote without an account is settled tool by tool on a separate page.

Which order does a visitor see first?

The newest. 1,071 Featurebase workspaces, 87.9 percent, open their board on the most recent requests. 103, 8.5 percent, open on the most voted, and 44, 3.6 percent, on trending. Paying workspaces lean further toward votes: 40 of 221, 18.1 percent, open on the most voted. FeatureOS boards lean the same way: 61 of 79 open on the latest requests and 18 on the most voted.

So on nine Featurebase boards in ten, the request with the most votes is not what a first time visitor sees. It is one menu away, under a list of whatever arrived last.

What do boards hold back from visitors?

Featurebase keeps one switch per workspace for each of these.

Switch All 1,218 221 paying 997 not paying
New posts wait for approval 8.3% 33.5% 2.7%
New comments wait for approval 1.9% 7.2% 0.7%
Completed and declined requests hidden 10.3% 26.7% 6.7%
Vote count hidden until the visitor votes 6.2% 11.3% 5.0%
Author hidden 3.9% 8.6% 2.8%
Status hidden 2.5% 5.4% 1.9%
Downvotes allowed 8.4% 12.7% 7.4%
Roadmap hidden 12.5% 18.1% 11.2%
Changelog hidden 39.8% 28.5% 42.3%

Approval is the switch that separates paying workspaces most clearly, one in three against one in thirty seven. Featurebase's help centre keeps it apart from guest posting, so a board can let guests post and still read every post before it appears. Downvotes are rare on FeatureOS too, switched on for 7 of its 79 workspaces.

Canny keeps its switches per board, and its board settings name each one.

Switch All 1,861 868 on paying sites 993 on sites not paying
Visitors can post new requests 98.3% 97.8% 98.8%
Voters shown on each request 88.1% 84.2% 91.4%
Names replaced by aliases 5.8% 12.0% 0.4%
Search indexing switched on 82.4% 76.2% 87.9%

On nine Canny boards in ten, a person who votes on a request can be seen doing it by the next visitor.

How many boards keep search engines out?

On Canny, a quarter of the paying ones, by choice. 207 of the 868 boards on paying sites have search indexing switched off, 23.8 percent.

On sites that do not pay, the switch does not decide. 873 of their 993 boards have it on, and the indexing read the same day found noindex on every Canny site that does not pay. Twelve board pages opened to check agreed: four paying boards with the switch on carried no noindex, four with it off carried noindex, and four boards on sites that do not pay carried noindex with the switch on.

Which tools do boards connect to?

Half of the paying Featurebase workspaces have at least one integration switched on, 117 of 221, against 68 of the 997 that do not pay.

Integration Paying workspaces Share of 221
Slack 71 32.1%
Linear 44 19.9%
Jira 18 8.1%
GitHub 14 6.3%
ClickUp 7 3.2%
HubSpot 3 1.4%
Zendesk 2 0.9%
Cursor 2 0.9%

Slack and Linear between them account for most of it. How requests travel into each tracker, and what has to be done by hand, is written up for Linear, Jira, GitHub and ClickUp. VoteFirst connects to none of the four.

What does that mean if you are choosing a board?

Most boards on Featurebase and Canny look alike. On Featurebase, 82.8 percent share one guest setup and 87.9 percent open on the newest requests. On Canny, almost every board takes posts from anyone signed in, and nine in ten show who voted.

VoteFirst starts with voting open to anyone, no account needed, and holds every new suggestion for approval, with no setting that removes the review. A visitor can sort by most voted, least voted, most viewed or the order the team set, and the sort runs over the whole column, not just the cards on screen. Completed and declined requests stay on the board by default, each in its own column.

How was this built, and when does it change?

The lists are the live sites from reads earlier the same day: 1,218 Featurebase workspaces whose organisation record answered, behind the Featurebase pricing figures, 923 Canny sites whose workspace record answered, behind the Canny pricing figures, and the 118 Frill and 79 FeatureOS boards found live by the indexing read. Both were drawn from Common Crawl's URL index, so they lean toward boards that something links to, and this is not a census.

Each site was read once, as a visitor with no sign in, at one request every two seconds or slower. Featurebase sends its settings in the organisation record at /api/v1/organization, and Canny embeds its list of public boards, settings included, in the page of each site, and so do Frill and FeatureOS. Canny keeps its switches per board and the other three per workspace, so a Canny row is a board and every other row is a workspace. One Frill board sent no settings, which leaves 117. Canny lists only public boards to a visitor, so private boards are not here, and 114 of the 923 sites listed none.

paying follows each tool's own record. For Featurebase it is a paid subscription that is active on a current plan or marked paid on an older one, as Featurebase's own app code counts it. For Canny it is an active subscription not marked free. For Frill it is a Startup, Business or Growth plan not on trial, so lifetime deals count as not paying, and for FeatureOS any plan but the trial and the retired free plan. guest_vote is 0 on every Canny row because Canny has no vote without an account. On Frill and FeatureOS rows, guest_vote, guest_post and guest_comment are 1 when no account is needed, and email_asked names the actions that ask for a name or an email first. A FeatureOS board that opens on the latest requests is written as recent, and FeatureOS has no comment switch in the page, so its guest_comment is empty. An integration counts when the workspace record has it switched on. Columns that one tool does not have are left empty on its rows.

Featurebase's help centre does not say which of its switches start on for a new workspace, so the shares here describe how boards were found, not how they began.

The next read is due by 1 January 2027.

The votes on 634 Canny and Featurebase boards are a separate file, and so is which boards search engines are told to skip.
