Microsoft takes public feature requests on its Feedback portal, feedbackportal.microsoft.com, where each product has a forum and anyone signed in can post, vote and comment. Every post in all 68 forums was read on 4 October 2026, from Teams, Outlook, Excel and Word to Microsoft To Do and XBOX Player Voice: 107,826 posts, with forum, status, category, votes, comments and the date each arrived on the portal.
97.0 percent of them carry Open, the status every post starts with. 311 are marked as added or improved, 0.29 percent. The portal has taken between 4,783 and 8,204 new posts every month since July 2025, and 15,001 in May 2026, when Xbox's forum opened. Of the 103,002 posted since July 2025, 884 have moved past Open.

Download the file, one row per post, compressed with gzip. It is free to copy, quote and use commercially. To cite it, link https://votefirst.app/en/data/microsoft-feature-requests and give the read date, 4 October 2026. The id in each row ends the post's address on the portal: the first row above is Enable us to move channels from one team to another, the third most voted post on the site.
How do you submit a feature request to Microsoft?
There are two routes, and Microsoft's page on how to give feedback describes both.
- Inside the app. In the desktop Microsoft 365 apps, open Help, then Feedback, or File, then Feedback. On a phone, tap the profile picture, then Help and Feedback. This sends the request to the product team, with screenshots and logs if the app allows them.
- On the Feedback portal. Sign in at feedbackportal.microsoft.com with a personal Microsoft account or a work or school account, open the product's forum and search it first. If someone has asked already, vote or comment on that post, since Microsoft says it gives priority to feedback that many people share. If nobody has, post a new one.
Microsoft's advice for a good post:
- Keep each post to one request, so the team can link it to others like it.
- For a problem, list the steps that cause it and say whether it happens every time.
- Leave out phone numbers, email addresses and personal details in screenshots. A public post shows your user name.
- After posting, check My Feedback on the portal for the status. A post can also be deleted there, which removes its votes and comments too.
Windows has its own channel, the Feedback Hub app. Xbox moved to the portal on 18 May 2026, when XBOX Player Voice replaced the Xbox Cloud Gaming feedback site, and bugs in test builds still go through the Xbox Insider Hub. On a work account, an administrator can turn the portal off, and the account can then only read it after signing out.
What do the statuses on Microsoft's Feedback portal mean?
Each post shows one status, worded in Microsoft's voice. The help page defines them, and the table gives the count of each on the read date.
| Status | Meaning, from Microsoft's help page | Posts |
|---|---|---|
| Open | Received. The help page calls this first status We've got it | 104,561 |
| We're reviewing this | Read, and the next step is being decided | 870 |
| We're considering this | Passed to the product team as a suggestion | 866 |
| We're working on this | A change is being made | 407 |
| We've added this | Built and released, or releasing. The portal opens it with the words Great news | 223 |
| We've closed this | Cannot be acted on, for example off topic or against the code of conduct | 205 |
| We need more details | Not enough information to act on | 170 |
| Already supported | The product already does it, or there is a workaround | 156 |
| We're looking into this | A reported problem is being investigated | 107 |
| Not right now | No change planned for now | 94 |
| We've made improvements | Changed because of the feedback, in full or in part | 88 |
| Thank you | Thanks for the feedback | 79 |
The help page also lists a status for fixed problems, and no post carried it on the read date. Microsoft groups similar posts into collections, each with one comment thread and a title saying how Microsoft understood the request. The help page says plainly that not every post gets a reply.
How many Microsoft feature requests get built?
Very few, and most of those arrived on the portal before July 2025. The portal holds 4,824 posts dated before then. 3,815 of them carry 8 or 9 March 2023, which reads as a bulk move from an older board rather than two days of writing, so those dates say when a post arrived on the portal, not when someone first asked. The older posts are the voted ones: a median of 60 votes each, 76.7 percent of all the votes on the site, and a status other than Open on 2,381 of them, 49.4 percent.
| Arrived on the portal | Posts | Past Open | Added or improved |
|---|---|---|---|
| Before July 2025 | 4,824 | 2,381 (49.4%) | 227 (4.7%) |
| July 2025 to 4 October 2026 | 103,002 | 884 (0.86%) | 84 (0.08%) |
Since July 2025, votes have made little difference. A newer post with fifty votes or more has moved past Open 1.4 percent of the time, against 0.85 percent for one with fewer than ten. Among the older posts, more than four in ten moved at every vote count.
| Votes | Posts since July 2025 | Past Open | Posts before July 2025 | Past Open |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 to 9 | 95,879 | 815 (0.85%) | 804 | 468 (58.2%) |
| 10 to 49 | 6,476 | 60 (0.93%) | 1,335 | 575 (43.1%) |
| 50 to 999 | 596 | 7 (1.2%) | 2,362 | 1,121 (47.5%) |
| 1,000 or more | 51 | 2 (3.9%) | 323 | 217 (67.2%) |
Most posts draw no attention at all. 52.0 percent have no vote, 85.4 percent have no comment, and the top 1 percent of posts hold 78.2 percent of the site's 2,567,521 votes.

The other 56 forums hold 20,589 posts between them, and 22 of those forums have fewer than a hundred.
Outlook has three forums. The one named Outlook holds 7,992 posts, and its most voted, syncing an email signature across devices with 11,661 votes, is marked We're working on this. Showing declined meetings in the calendar, with 8,620, is marked added. The new Outlook forum holds 3,445, led by a request to accept or decline an invite without sending a reply, 847 votes and Open, and a unified inbox, 798 votes and marked We're working on this. On Outlook.com's forum of 739, the four most voted posts all ask for better blocking and junk mail filtering, and all four are marked We're considering this.
Microsoft To Do is the largest forum where nothing has moved: all 5,294 posts are Open, and 5,282 of them arrived after June 2025. The most voted ask for more date and time suggestions for reminders, with 616 votes, and for a link with the Outlook calendar, with 612.
Excel has 7,567 posts, 55 of them marked Not right now. Its two most voted are both marked added: a dark mode that darkens the sheet itself, 3,005 votes, and a checkbox in a cell for true and false values, 1,728.
Word's two most voted posts ask for spelling dictionaries in Avar, with 19,641 votes, and in Kumyk, with 10,636, two languages of Dagestan. Both are marked We're reviewing this.
What happened on XBOX Player Voice?
It filled fast. Xbox opened it on 18 May 2026, and 7,797 posts arrived in its first week. By the read date it held 18,449, with 404,616 votes, 49 posts past a thousand votes and 233 past a hundred. 14,106 are about the console, 1,662 about Xbox on PC and 1,432 about cloud gaming.
The most voted ask for exclusive games, 26,315 votes, free online multiplayer, 25,092, and backward compatibility, 20,706. Then come Ukrainian translation of Microsoft's own games, 14,162, a Game Pass family plan, 13,197, Russian text in Fable, 12,723, and disc games on Project Helix, 12,652.
Three posts are marked added, all about one change: showing play time in hours in place of days, rolling out first to some Xbox Insiders on console. The other 18,446 are Open. Xbox's launch post said not every piece of feedback would become a feature and that it was starting small.
How does Microsoft compare with other public trackers?
VS Code, Microsoft's code editor, answers by rule. Its GitHub tracker closes a request that misses 20 upvotes in 60 days, so a request that will not reach twenty hears so in about two months. Minecraft's feedback site answers even less often than the portal: it set a status on 0.05 percent of the posts filed since 2020, against the portal's 0.86 percent past Open since July 2025. Zendesk marked 6.1 percent of the requests on its board delivered, and Intercom 2.3 percent of its wishlist released.
What does that mean for your own feature request board?
When nearly every post keeps the status it started with, the status tells voters nothing, and the same request is posted again and again. The fix is a short list of statuses that someone sets on a schedule, including a plain no. On VoteFirst, Denied and Completed are columns on the board from the start, so a decision shows where voters already look. Voting is anonymous by default, and when a release includes a request, every voter who was signed in when they voted is emailed that release.
How was this read, and when does it change?
The portal's forum pages load their posts from JSON calls that answer without a sign in. On 4 October 2026 those calls listed every post in each of the 68 forums, 107,826 in all. The calls report a count of at most 5,000 posts per forum, and paging continued past it to the last post. Votes and comments are as of the read date, and each status is the one shown that day. The read cannot tell when a status was set. Private posts, which only Microsoft and the poster's organisation can see, and hidden posts could not be read and are not counted.
63,740 posts carry a response under an automated account's name, and on the Open posts checked it held no text, so the study counts statuses, not replies. The public file holds one row per post with no titles, authors or countries. The next read is due by 1 January 2027.
