VoteFirst is a feedback board and roadmap tool. A custom domain is a PRO feature, $39 a month, and it puts your public roadmap, your public voting board and one named public board at an address like feedback.yourapp.com. It does not move your changelog or your most wanted list, which stay on your votefirst.app address.
What the domain actually serves
Three routes answer on your domain, and nothing else does.
| Path on your domain | What loads |
|---|---|
feedback.yourapp.com/ |
Your public roadmap |
feedback.yourapp.com/voting_board |
Your public voting board |
feedback.yourapp.com/board/<slug> |
One named public board, by its slug |
Your changelog and your most wanted list get no address on your domain. Link to them at their votefirst.app address.
How to set it up
- Open your project's settings and find the custom domain field, under general settings on PRO.
- Type the domain you want to use, for example feedback.yourapp.com, and save.
- At your DNS provider, add a CNAME record for that name pointing to roadmap.votefirst.app.
- Wait for the CNAME to resolve. That is ordinary DNS propagation, usually minutes, sometimes longer depending on your provider.
- Once it resolves, the certificate issues itself on the first request to your domain. There is no separate verify step and no certificate file to upload.
Your votefirst.app address keeps working the whole time, so nothing you have already linked to breaks while you switch.
If the DNS record is wrong
Until the CNAME points at roadmap.votefirst.app and has propagated, your domain never reaches VoteFirst at all. A browser hits whatever the domain currently resolves to, or nothing, and no certificate gets issued, because the certificate is only requested once a real visitor's browser connects through the correct route. There is no broken page to see and nothing to undo. Fix the record, wait for it to resolve, and the next request completes normally.
What the domain does not change
Removing the field clears the domain and your board goes back to answering only on votefirst.app. The badge saying a board runs on VoteFirst only ever shows for accounts with no active plan, so it is never on screen on a PRO account's own domain in the first place, custom domain or not.
What other feedback tools charge for a custom domain
| Tool | Plan with a custom domain | Price | Read |
|---|---|---|---|
| VoteFirst | PRO | $39/month | 2026-10-02 |
| Canny | Pro | $79/month billed yearly | 2026-10-02 |
| Featurebase | Not listed on any plan on its own pricing page | n/a | 2026-10-02 |
| Upvoty | Power | $15/month | 2026-10-02 |
| Frill | Startup | $25/month | 2026-10-02 |
| Nolt | Could not read, its pricing page answers 403 to this request | n/a | 2026-10-02 |
Upvoty and Frill both put a custom domain on a cheaper plan than VoteFirst does. On VoteFirst it comes with PRO at $39/mo, on the same plan as unlimited projects, the team and the API.
What VoteFirst does not do here
- No custom domain for the changelog. It stays on your votefirst.app address regardless of plan.
- No custom domain for the most wanted list. Same address, same restriction.
- No custom domain on LITE. It is a PRO feature only.
- No manual certificate upload and no separate domain verification step to click through.
Questions people ask about this
Does the custom domain work with weighted voting and comments?
Yes. A custom domain only changes the address a page answers on. Everything configured on the roadmap, the voting board or the named board, including weighted voting and comments, works the same under your own domain as it does on votefirst.app.
Can the board sit on the bare domain, without a subdomain?
Use a subdomain such as feedback.yourapp.com. The setup asks for a CNAME, and the DNS rules do not allow a CNAME on a bare domain, because the bare domain already carries other records. The CNAME on a subdomain touches nothing else, so your main site and your mail keep working as they do today.
Can more than one domain point at the same board?
No. The setting holds one domain per project.
What happens to the domain when moving from PRO to LITE?
The move is refused while a custom domain is set. Clear the field first, then change plan, so the domain never breaks halfway through a switch.
The public roadmap and the feedback board are what this domain actually points at. The API is the other PRO feature in the same plan, for reading and writing the same board from your own code.
What VoteFirst does not do
- No SAML or OIDC. Single sign on is a signed JWT handoff only, on PRO.
- No Slack, Zapier or outgoing webhooks.
- No AI clustering, summarization or automated conversation analysis.
- No Android or Kotlin SDK.
- No private boards on any plan. A board is public to everyone or to nobody.
- Custom domain serves three paths only, the public roadmap, the public voting board and one named board, not the changelog or the most wanted list.
- No free plan. A 14 day trial, card required at signup.
Run your own public Canny or Featurebase board through the board audit to see its votes, its voters and what it costs at that size.
14 days, a card at signup, then $9 or $39 a month.
