Quackback prices a seat, and a seat is somebody on your side who answers. Their page states that portal users are free on every plan and that there are no seat minimums, so the people who post and vote never reach the invoice.
There is a second route, which is that the software is licensed AGPL-3.0 and can be run on your own machines with no software fee. Everything below was read on Quackback's own pricing page on 16 September 2026.

What is the gap between five seats and twenty?
Thirty dollars a month, and there is nothing in between.

A team of six pays the same as a team of twenty. That is generous at the top of the band and slightly expensive at the bottom of it, and it is a far smaller penalty than the per seat products in this category apply at the same headcount.
Does Quackback have a free plan?
Yes, and it is one of the two or three most generous free plans anywhere in this comparison.
One seat, one board, fifty posts, and the voting, roadmap, changelog, help centre and status page all switched on. Unlimited customers and unlimited conversations sit on it too, so the free plan is capped by posts rather than by people.
Fifty posts is the wall. On a board that works that is a few months, and then the choice is twenty nine dollars or the self hosted route.

What does self hosting actually cost?
No software fee and no seat fee, under AGPL-3.0, with your own infrastructure and your own AI provider on top.
The infrastructure is the real number and it is small. A single server that runs a web application and a database is a few dollars a month at the low end, and somebody has to keep it patched.
The licence is worth reading before you commit. AGPL asks that if you modify the code and offer it to others over a network, you publish those modifications. Running the stock version for your own customers is unaffected. Forking it heavily and keeping the fork private is not.
What does one subscription actually cover?
Five products, and that is the pitch on their own page.
A support inbox, a feedback board, a help centre, a changelog and a status page. Buying those separately is commonly four or five subscriptions, so twenty nine dollars covering all of them is a real saving for a team that needs all of them.
The question to ask yourself is how many of the five you would open in a normal week. If the answer is one, a focused product at nine dollars does that one thing and the other four are surface you are paying for.

Both products agree that the people who use your board should not be on your bill, and both charge a flat number rather than a headcount. What Quackback has that this does not is four extra modules, a free plan and an open source licence.
