Per seat or flat: what a feedback board actually bills you on

At ten people, Featurebase Growth is $290 a month at $29 a seat, read on its own pricing page on 21 October 2026. VoteFirst, whose maker wrote this page, is $39 a month flat for the same ten people, so weigh what follows with that in mind.

A feedback board bills one of three ways, and the unit decides what happens to your bill as the team or the board grows. The arithmetic below runs at the team sizes a board actually has, rather than describing pricing models in the abstract.

How does a feedback tool bill?

Per seat, meaning your colleagues: also called a seat, a user, a creator, a maker or an editor. Featurebase bills by seat, Aha! Ideas and Productlane bill by user, Jira Product Discovery bills by creator, Harvestr and Craft.io bill by editor, and Productboard bills by maker.

Per tracked or active user, meaning the people who vote rather than the people who run the board: Canny and Convas bill by tracked user, and Beamer bills by monthly active user.

Flat, meaning a plan, a workspace, a project or a board, with no count of people at all: VoteFirst bills by plan, Features.Vote and Upvoty bill flat by project, and Sleekplan, Noora, Supahub, Frill, Rapidr and UserJot bill flat by workspace.

What does a team of 1, 3, 5 and 10 actually pay?

Read on 21 October 2026 from each vendor's own pricing page:

Team size Featurebase, per seat Harvestr Core, editor Aha! Ideas Essentials, user, 3 seat minimum Upvoty Power, flat, yearly VoteFirst
1 $0 on Free $79 $117 $13.50 $9 (Lite)
3 $87 $237 $117 $13.50 $39 (Pro)
5 $145 $395 $195 $13.50 $39 (Pro)
10 $290 $790 $390 $13.50 $39 (Pro)

Featurebase's Free plan has one seat, so one person pays nothing, and Growth is $29 a seat a month billed yearly, so a team of ten pays $290. Aha! Ideas has a published three seat minimum, so one person and three people land on the same $117 floor before the per seat rate starts moving the bill. Harvestr has no minimum and no free seat, so its editor rate multiplies straight from the first person. Upvoty and VoteFirst do not move at all, because neither counts a seat.

Two more per seat vendors worth naming at the same sizes. Jira Product Discovery is free for three creators and $10.50 a creator on its paid plan, so five creators is $52.50 a month and ten is $105. Productlane is twenty nine dollars a user with no free seat, so five users is $145 a month and ten is $290.

The tracked user question, which is a different bill entirely

Per seat bills grow with how many colleagues run the board. Per tracked user bills grow with how many customers use it, and that is the number that surprises people, because a working board is supposed to get more participation, not less.

A tracked user is anybody with a post, a vote or a comment attributed to them, including people an admin voted on behalf of. The arithmetic for every tool that meters this way, at your own voter count, is worked out here.

When per seat is the better deal

One person running a board alone pays little under most per seat plans, and several vendors give that first seat away outright. Featurebase's Free plan has one seat. Jira Product Discovery gives three free creators before any bill starts. For a founder checking a board twice a week, the per seat number on the pricing page is close to irrelevant, because the team it is multiplying is one person.

Per seat also means the bill never moves because customers showed up, which is the opposite risk from a tracked user meter. A board that goes viral costs a per seat vendor nothing extra and costs a tracked user vendor its next pricing tier.

What does each model cost at 100, 1,000 and 10,000 voters?

Per seat and flat plans ignore the voter count. A team of three on Featurebase Growth pays $87 a month at 100 voters, $87 at 1,000 voters and $87 at 10,000 voters, and VoteFirst Pro is $39 a month at 100 voters, $39 at 1,000 voters and $39 at 10,000 voters. Canny, which bills tracked users, is the one that moves.

Where VoteFirst sits

VoteFirst bills by plan, and the price never counts the people who vote.

Lifetime

$999 once

Everything in Pro Every future Pro feature Paid once, never renewed

Fourteen day trial of Pro, card asked for at signup. Nothing here counts the people who vote, so the bill does not move when the board starts working. The long version, with what happens if you stop paying.

Lite is $9 a month, or $90 a year, for one project with one roadmap, a changelog and weighted voting, and no team members, which makes Lite a one person plan. Pro is $39 a month, or $390 a year, for unlimited projects, team members with no seat count, the API, a custom domain and messages inside your own app. Lifetime is $999 once. A trial of Pro runs fourteen days, and a card is asked for at signup.

Your board comes with you

On Canny or Featurebase, paste the board's address into Settings and its posts, statuses and vote counts come across, finished and closed posts included. Comments stay behind. Read the board first to see what it holds, no account needed.

What VoteFirst does not do

  • No SAML or OIDC. Single sign on is a signed JWT handoff only, on PRO.
  • No Slack, Zapier or outgoing webhooks.
  • No AI clustering, summarization or automated conversation analysis.
  • No Android or Kotlin SDK.
  • No private boards on any plan. A board is public to everyone or to nobody.
  • Custom domain serves three paths only, the public roadmap, the public voting board and one named board, not the changelog or the most wanted list.
  • No free plan. A 14 day trial, card required at signup.

Run your own public Canny or Featurebase board through the board audit to see its votes, its voters and what it costs at that size.

The billing unit for every tool in the category is on one page, and every seat and flat figure above came from that vendor's own pricing page on the date at the top of this one.
