Canny bills the customers who vote, and Frill bills the ideas on the board

Canny and Frill both show a monthly figure and neither figure moves for the same reason. Canny's meter is the number of people who post, vote or comment.

Frill's meter is the number of ideas sitting open on the board, whoever put them there. Everything below was read on each vendor's own pricing page, most of it on 14 September 2026 and the rest on 15 September 2026.

What does each one charge?

Seventy nine dollars a month for Canny at a hundred tracked users, twenty two for Frill at fifty open ideas, and nine for us with no meter at all.

We could not find a pricing proof image for Frill under the same path, so the figure above stands for one side only. Frill's own numbers are typed out in the table below instead.

Frill's pricing page reads twenty five dollars a month billed monthly or twenty two billed yearly for Startup, capped at fifty active ideas. Business is forty nine or forty four, with the idea cap removed.

Growth is a hundred and forty nine or a hundred and thirty six, and Enterprise is three hundred and forty nine or three hundred and nineteen.

How much does Canny cost compared to Frill?

The two meters run on different axes, so the same company can look cheap on one and expensive on the other.

Your situation Canny Frill
3 people, 20 customers vote, 15 open ideas Free, under the 25 tracked user line $22/mo billed yearly, under the 50 idea line
10 people, 100 customers vote, 60 open ideas $79/mo, at the 100 tracked user line $44/mo billed yearly, on Business once the idea cap is passed
40 people, 1,000 customers vote, 300 open ideas $529/mo billed yearly, at the 1,000 tracked user line $44/mo billed yearly, unchanged from the row above

The third row is the one worth sitting with. Canny's bill grew twelve times over between the second and third row because voters grew. Frill's bill did not move at all, because neither the team nor the voter count is what Frill charges for.

Canny does not publish a rate for tracked user counts between its printed steps. Their page names 100, 1,000 and 5,000, with nothing written for the numbers in between.

If you would rather look at a board than read about billing, the demo is open without an account.

Which one should you choose?

They solve different problems and the honest answer says something good about each.

Frill genuinely does not charge you for growing. Fifty colleagues and fifty thousand customers cost the same as five of each, because the plan meters your backlog rather than your audience. That is a real design decision and a good one for a board that gets busy fast.

Canny is the more finished public feedback product. The board, the roadmap, the changelog and the automated conversation reading are built out further than Frill's equivalents, and Canny's free plan gives a small board a real place to start at no cost.

Fourteen days of Pro, a card at signup, then nine or thirty nine a month.

Why choose Canny over Frill, or Frill over Canny?

Because one of them worries about how many people showed up and the other worries about how long your list of open requests has grown.

Choose Canny when you expect a lot of engagement from a small number of ideas, because voters do not move your Frill bill and tracked users do move Canny's.

Choose Frill when your backlog of ideas grows faster than your voter count, or when you want unlimited colleagues on the cheapest paid plan, which Canny's page does not offer in the same words.

The price follows from your own shape. Neither vendor's pricing page tells you which shape you are.

Is there a cheaper alternative to both?

Several, and which one wins depends on whether your bill grows with voters, with ideas, or with neither.

Against Canny's tracked user meter, anything flat is cheaper the moment a board starts working, and the calculator runs that comparison on a size you choose. This site is nine dollars a month with no meter on either axis, and the full field with the unit each vendor bills on is one page.

What does each do with a vote from a big customer?

Canny sorts by the revenue a feature affects. Frill weights the vote itself by customer revenue, in their own published words, and that is the same thing this product is built around.

Read on each vendor's own pages on the date in the row above. Not published means nobody could read it on the pages opened that day, never that the feature is absent.

Canny's own feature page describes sorting boards by monthly revenue impact, which orders a list by the money behind it. It does not change what one vote is worth against another.

Frill's own comparison table states plainly that it weights votes by customer revenue, which is a different operation and the one that decides a tied request.

We checked all thirty two vendors we track for this. Eight of them describe something revenue related in their own words, and four of those eight, including Frill, use the word weight rather than sort or filter.

Frill is one of the few products in this field that does the same thing we do, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.

Can I move from one to the other?

Both export, and what an export loses is the part neither vendor's documentation dwells on.

Canny's export is real and documented rather than a support ticket. Frill's page describes bulk CSV import as well as export, and lists a Canny importer by name, so a move from Canny to Frill has a published path in one direction already.

What a Canny export actually contains is written up separately, from the file rather than from their documentation.

Where we fit, and where we do not

We are one board on one project on the nine dollar plan, with no survey product and no automated conversation reading of any kind.

Frill sells surveys on top of the board, net promoter score, satisfaction, open feedback, quick polls and idea polls, and unlimited colleagues on every paid tier.

Both Frill and Canny let you keep part of a board away from the public, Frill with a privacy add on and Canny with private boards on every plan including Free, and we have no version of that at any price. A board of ours is public to everybody or to nobody.

What this product does is put a multiplier on a tier and write that weight onto the vote when it is cast, on the nine dollar plan as well as the thirty nine dollar one.

Frill's weighting sits on every paid plan too, so the difference between us is not whether the vote is weighted, it is what else comes with the plan that does the weighting.

What is Canny, and what is Frill?

Canny is a feedback board with a roadmap and a changelog, billed by the number of people who take part. Frill is a feedback board with a roadmap, a changelog and a survey product, billed by the size of your open backlog rather than by who reads it.

Does either one have a free plan?

Canny does and Frill does not. Canny's pricing page gives twenty five tracked users at no cost, which ends when twenty five customers have voted rather than when a colleague joins.

Frill's page carries a fourteen day trial that its own banner says needs no card, with no free tier under it.

The honest summary

Canny charges for the crowd and gives you a real free plan while the crowd is small. Frill charges for the length of your own list and lets the crowd grow for nothing.

Both weight or rank a vote by revenue, and Frill is the one that actually weights it, which is the same thing we do on every plan including the nine dollar one.

The Canny alternative page and the Frill one carry each side on its own.
