Canny and Fider are not competing on price, because Fider does not really charge one. Canny meters the customers who show up on your board. Fider is open source, and self hosted it is free with every feature turned on. Everything below was read on each vendor's own pages on 14 and 15 September 2026.
What does each one charge?
Seventy nine dollars a month, free to a fair use limit, and nine, and only one of the three has a published rate that grows with your board.

Fider's own answer names the point where free ends, and it is measured in items posted rather than people. Two hundred and fifty feedback items, then twenty five dollars a month for their hosted Pro plan, or nothing at all if you run the software yourself.
Canny's meter counts differently. A tracked user is anybody associated with feedback, so the free plan ends at twenty five people who posted, voted or commented, not at twenty five things they posted.
How much does Canny cost compared to Fider?
It depends on which of the two things grows on your board, the number of people or the number of posts, and those move at different speeds.

The middle row is the one worth sitting with. A thousand people can vote on Fider without it costing a cent more, because Fider does not count them. The same thousand people put Canny at $529 a month.
Canny does not print a rate between 100 tracked users and its enterprise tier. Their page carries a slider from 25 to 5,000 with an optional spend limit and no figures for the steps in between. The $529 figure above is their own worked answer at exactly 1,000, not an estimate of ours.

Which one should you choose?
They solve different problems and the honest answer says so plainly.
Fider is the more honestly free product of the two. Self hosted it is not a trial or a stripped down tier, it is the whole thing with every feature on, because their code sets the Pro flag to true for anyone not running in multi host mode.
Nothing here or from Canny matches that at any price.
Canny is the better choice for a team that will never run its own server. Hosting, the database, backups and the certificate are Canny's job rather than yours, and that is worth the seventy nine dollars to a team that does not want a second piece of infrastructure to own.
Why choose Canny over Fider, or Fider over Canny?
Because one of them asks for a monthly bill and the other asks for an afternoon of your own operations time, and which is cheaper depends on whether you already have that afternoon.
Choose Canny when nobody on the team wants to be responsible for a Postgres instance at eleven at night, and when the revenue reporting and sales tool sync on Canny's higher plans matter to you.
Choose Fider when you already run Docker and Postgres in production, when a policy says the data stays on infrastructure you control, or when your voters are peers where one person one vote is the right model rather than a limitation.

Is there a cheaper alternative to both?
Fider self hosted already answers that for itself. Nothing beats free, and if the licence is the whole question, this page is not the one that changes your mind.
Where the question gets interesting is the meter rather than the sticker price. The tracked user calculator prices Canny at a voter count you choose, and the full field with the unit each vendor bills on puts every option, hosted and self hosted, on one page.
What does each do with a vote from a big customer?
Canny orders by revenue, Fider does not weight a vote at all, and ours multiplies the vote itself.

A dash means nobody could read it on the pages opened that day, never that the capability is absent. Fider is a community voting tool by design, and every signed in voter counts as one, which is exactly right when your voters are peers rather than customers on different plans.
Can I move from one to the other?
Both export, and what does not survive the move is the part nobody writes down until it is gone.
Voters and the revenue behind them come in from a CSV or a billing connection on our side, the requests themselves are rebuilt by hand or by script, and the vote counts start again. What a Canny export actually contains is written up from the file itself.
Fider is a database you already own, so if you are moving away from a self hosted instance the dump is yours and complete. Moving away from Canny, or into either tool, loses who cast each vote and the original thread.
Where we fit, and where we do not
This product has one module. There is no knowledge base, no forms product, no AI layer reading anything, and no option to run it on your own server the way Fider does.
What it does is put a multiplier on a tier and write that weight onto the vote when it is cast, on every plan starting at nine dollars a month.
Canny's revenue reporting depth and its sales tool sync sit on their higher plans, and those are real capabilities we do not have at any price. Fider's capability we do not have is the one this whole page is about: the option to pay nothing, ever, by running the software yourself.
What is Canny, and what is Fider?
Canny is a hosted feedback board with a roadmap and a changelog, billed by the number of people who take part.
Fider is an open source feedback board under the AGPL. Run it yourself for the cost of a server, or use their hosted tier, which is free to a fair use limit and $25 a month past it.
Does either one have a free plan?
Both do, and they cap different things. Canny's free plan ends at twenty five tracked users, so it ends when twenty five customers have voted rather than when a colleague joins.
Fider's free hosted plan ends at two hundred and fifty feedback items, so it ends when two hundred and fifty things get posted, not when people vote on them.
Self hosted, Fider has no cap of any kind. We have no free plan at any price.

The honest summary

A busy board that posts constantly can cross Fider's limit while staying cheap on Canny.
